[Mo-facs] Baby Think It Over

If it were me, I would fail the student over shaking a baby or deduct 200
points if you're using a 250 scale. SBS is rated as the most serious form
of child abuse. And in many states it is now considered a felony. Remember
1 out of 4 shaken babies die.

You are all the educators, but in my opinion it sends out a lean message
that you can shake a baby and have no consequences as the perpetrator.
Remember, students who shake during these projects would also be considered
as perpetrators in real life and could potentially shake in real life. I
would not want my students to shake a baby and then say "Oh well, I got a
"B" anyway."

You know as a twist to the situation, a lesson plan could even be developed
that if you found one that had been shaken to go through the actual
investigation process and do a mock trial with the class. The jury could be
the perps peers. You might even have a real life investigator or DA come in
and talk about it after the fact about the consequences. I know you have a
lot to teach during the semesters but it is an idea.

Just my opinions, and of course I'm biased as I know what happens in real
life. Thanks to all of you who have written me privately.

Keep on Educating!

Yes, 50 points for shaking a baby.

I used the points that the lady sent out on her BTIO rubric. Last year,
I only deducted 1 point for shaken baby and it was a 200 point project.
This is my 2nd time doing the project, so, I'm modifying as I go. How
many points would you deduct?

Question about the scorecard.

Just curious...only 50 points out of 250 is deducted for Shaking a
baby? So
you can still get a "B" on the project if you do everything else right
and
shake a baby? Am I reading this right?

Also, wanted to see if anyone has caught the episode of Suite Life with
Zach
and Cody where London and Maddie did the Baby Think it Over project?
It
aired a couple of weeks ago.

This is the scoreguide that I used with the Realcare babies.

This is my first year using the Baby Think It Over parenting
simulation.
I want to give the students a grade based on how they did, not just a
participation grade. I have the scoring guide that came with the
simulation, but do not like the setup. I would love to see any
scoring
guides that you have developed for this project.

Thanks,
