Just a reminder the deadline for commenting on the Perkins Transition
Plan is April 20th. I hope that each of you will review it for how it
impacts on FCS programs in your district and comment appropriately.

Subject: Inviting Input for Perkins Transition Plan

Action Requested:

Please review the (second) draft of the Missouri Perkins Transition Plan
by April 20. It is now available for review and comment at
http://www.dese.mo.gov/divcareered/perkins_iv_feedback.htm.

Background:

The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of
2006 (Perkins IV) authorizes the legislation through FY 2012, for a
total of six years instead of the current five. As with most states,
Missouri will submit a one-year transition plan to the U.S. Department
of Education in early May 2007 to cover the 2007-2008 school year
(beginning July 1, 2007). The transition plan will focus on development
of key program components. Then, the following spring (2008), the state
will submit a full five-year plan for public comment and approval to
become effective July 1, 2008.

A preliminary (first) draft of the transition plan was shared with
attendees at the 2007 Spring Conference of the Missouri Council for
Career and Technical Administrators (MCCTA) and has been on our website
since March 18, but few comments have been received to date. This
second draft is more complete, and we hope everyone will take some time
now to review it and provide any feedback or suggestions by April 20.

Please do not hesitate to contact Dennis Harden (573-751-3500 or
dennis.harden at dese.mo.gov) if you have any questions.
