[Mo-facs] Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety - Rewards In Store for Students Accepting Battle of the Belt Challenge

The "Battle of the Belts" is a project that might be of interest to a
FCCLA chapter wishing to implement a FACTS (Families Acting for
Community Traffic Safety) program.  FACTS is also one of the national
programs that will be highlighted in the "Chapters in Action" session at
the fall Access FCCLA conference.

 

The popular seat belt challenge for Missouri high schools will run
September 6 - December 31.  In 2006, more than 100 schools took the
challenge, with students performing surprise seat belt checks at their
high school, coupled with an educational campaign on the importance of
seat belt use.

 

In 2007, the program expands to reach even more teens. In addition to
the peer seat belt checks and educational campaign, students have the
opportunity to submit a video of a 30-second television spot, or a
storyboard for a 30-second television spot encouraging teens to buckle
up.

 

Missouri high schools may choose to participate in one, two, or all
three components of the program.  Prizes will be awarded for each
component, so a school has the potential to win all three.

 

Prizes include:

 

*	$1,000 to the Missouri school with the highest overall safety
belt use rate
*	$1,000 to the Missouri school with the most improved safety belt
use rate
*	$1,000 to the student or group producing a winning 30-second
video PSA for safety belt use
*	$500 to the student or group producing a winning storyboard
concept depicting a 30-second PSA for safety belt use
*	Professional production of video concepts and possible use in
local and statewide media
