Position Description
Summary
Human Environmental Sciences Extension promotes optimal well-being of
individuals, families and communities, with special recognition for the
needs of vulnerable populations. This is accomplished through the
application of research from the following subject areas - Architectural
Studies, Consumer & Family Economics, Human Development & Family
Studies, Nutritional Sciences, Health, and Building Strong Families.
This position works with the Family Nutrition Education Programs, an
important part of the University of Missouri Extension - bringing the
latest nutrition information to low-income Missourians. This position
is responsible for educating the faculty, staff, and the public by
researching, writing, and disseminating nutrition education curriculum
and information for over 200 Extension faculty and staff who teach a
variety of grade levels.

Characteristic Duties
40% Develop and/or adapt developmentally appropriate
nutrition educational lessons and teaching; materials for pre-K through
high school age whom have limited incomes. Must ensure curriculum meets
current nutrition recommendations from USDA and other research-based
federal and health organizations. May assist with conducting research
utilizing research journals, research-based literature, researchers, and
professionals in the Human Environmental Sciences field.
30% Review and/or develop nutrition education curriculum for
implementation within the Family Nutrition Education Program.
05% Train FNEP faculty and staff on the curriculum materials
and delivery methods developed for state-wide implementation.
05% Maintain working relationships with regional and state
FNEP faculty and staff.
10% Provide educational and curriculum expertise and
assistance.
10% Work with regional FNEP Coordinators throughout Missouri
to ensure consistent delivery methods throughout the state, thereby
enhancing the learning opportunities of Missourians.
Conduct all activities in accordance with the Civil Rights Acts, Title
IX, Rehabilitation, Americans with Disabilities Act and local, state and
region affirmative action plans.
As with all positions, involvement with other duties and
responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and
purpose of MU Extension.
Accountability
This position reports to an Associate State Specialist Curriculum &
Staff Training Coordinator in the Family Nutrition Education Programs,
Nutritional Sciences.
Leadership Responsibilities
Functional supervision may be exercised over research and office support
personnel.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelors Degree in education, health education, nutrition or related
field with a minimum of 24 hours coursework in program content area.
Ability to understand, synthesize and communicate relevant educational
curriculum to diverse audiences.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Familiar with school wellness policies.
Advanced written and verbal skills necessary to teach and train faculty
and staff.
Computer proficient, including experience with the web, Outlook, Word,
and some Excel.
The ideal candidate will also have:
* Knowledge and experience with GLEs
* Experience teaching nutrition or health to youth of all ages
* Knowledge of limited income audiences
* Experience writing nutrition education curriculum for pre-K
through high school
