Leadership Education Program in the nations capital and a one-time
$5,000 scholarship.

from March 1 - 8, 2008 the 46th Annual United States Senate Youth
Program (USSYP) will be held in Washington, D.C.. This unique
partnership between the United States Senate and the William Randolph
Hearst Foundation brings one hundred and four student delegates to the
nation's capital for an all-expense paid week of intensive education
about American government.

Students will follow a rigorous schedule of meetings and briefings with
Senators, cabinet members and other government officials with whom they
have ample opportunity to question and converse, and they will be part
of a highly motivated and academically excellent group. A one-time
$5,000 college scholarship will be presented to each of the student
delegates during the Washington visit.

Two students from each sate, the District of Columbia and the Department
of Defense Education Activity will be selected as delegates. Each State
Department of Education is responsible for selecting the two student
delegates and two alternates. Any high school junior or senior is
eligible for the program provided he or she is currently serving in the
2007-2008 school year:

a) Student body president, vice president, secretary or treasurer.

b) Class president, vice president, secretary or treasurer.

c) Student council representative.

d) Student representative elected or selected (selected panel,
commission or board) to district, regional, or state-level civic or
educational organization.

Each student must be a permanent resident of the United States and
currently enrolled in a public or private secondary school located in
the state in which either one of his/her parents or guardians legally
reside. Exceptions to this rule will be made only in the cases of the
Department of Education Activity and public schools under Interstate
Compacts.
