Last week I had the honor of helping to "roast" Dr. Francis Shipley at NWMSU for her 40 wonderful years of service to the FAS students at NWMSU. The evening was a delight, sharing stories and memories. In my speech I did a little thing entitled "You might be one of Dr. Shipley's students if..."

I am sending the list out and asking if anyone who knows Dr. Shipley and would like to add to the list please feel free to do so. I was also hoping to help raise money for a great cause. NWMSU has started the Dr. Shipley scholarship fund. If you would like to contribute please send money to the alumni association at NWMSU.

You Know you are one of Dr. Shipley's students if...

* In at your first job interview the principal says, oh I was going to ask you about lesson planning but since I see that you've had Dr. Shipley--never mind.

* You can write a lesson on auto pilot.

*You write a objective for every day--including your day off ... and you monitor and adjust the objective when your spouse seems to need an alternative lesson.

* You principle chooses you to write a school objective because you're the FACS teacher--you do it better and faster than other subject areas.

* You can recognize the names of these major pieces of legislation that go with these dates - 1917, 1963, 1968, 1976, 1984, 1990, 1994, 1995 and 1998.

* You go out and buy a new outfit for the next day of school because Dr. Shipley is coming to evaluate your student teaching.

* You talk, bribe, and beg your students to be really good because Dr. Shipley is coming to evaluate you and you don't want to disappoint her.

* You stay at school later than usual cleaning every nook and cranny of your classroom so she will be impressed when she comes to visit.

*Even though you are colleagues, "Frances" is too hard to say, she will always be Dr. Shipley to you.

*You have been known to say "We don't do it that way in Family and Consumer Sciences"

* You are easy to spot on campus, you are always the best dressed and the most professional acting.

* You laugh to yourself when the principal announces another new hoop for the faculty to jump through-- because you have already done it in the FACS department.

* Implementation Guide is one of the few books that you have read from cover to cover while in college.

* You are still intimidated by her professionalism even after 10 years--20 years---30 years---ok for the rest of your life because she is the ultimate educator.
