[Technic] Swapping drives in NOVELL 6.5

Recently I exchanged a spare HD with one that I had configured as a
traditional in a server some years ago. I used the same vol name, ID5,
as the removed drive and never got the new HD completely setup.
Does the vol name need to be different, like ID6 ,even if both drives
will never co-exist simutaneously in the server?
