** High Priority **
>From the Desk of Mayor Francis G. Slay:
I am writing to provide information to you concerning Proposition P, the 1/8 of a cent sales tax to increase recreational opportunities for our city residents. In a nutshell, Proposition P would provide a dedicated source of funding. For perspective, if you make a purchase of $8, the tax would be one penny. This would allow the city to:
* Build two new, state of the art Rec-Plexes, one in North St. Louis and one in South St. Louis. The Rec-Plexes would have amenities similar to what you will find in Clayton, Richmond Heights and other municipalities,
* Provide $9.5 million to repair and upgrade of our existing recreation facilities, which will remain free to the public,
* Provide $700,000 in funding to target recreational programs in under-served areas of the city. This would allow us to provide targeted assistance in those neighborhoods which do not have recreation facilities but have a specific population that wants assistance.
For our city to become an even greater city, it is crucial that we have quality recreational facilities and programs available to all our residents. Proposition P would give us the resources to improve and expand our recreation programs.
If you have questions concerning Proposition P, please call Charles Bryson (622-4043) or email him at brysonc at stlouiscity.com. Thank you for your support. Together, we will continue to make St. Louis a great city.
