I wanted you to be aware of an incident that happened yesterday afternoon in the Shaw neighborhood.
My cousin and I were walking south on Klemm at 5:30pm and were assaulted by 2 African-American girls in their mid-teens. There was a group of 6 girls on the west side of Klemm and as we crossed over Flora two of the girls ran across the street, smiling at us, and proceeded to hit us in the face and head. We were carrying crockpots back to a friend's house and so had our hands full and could not defend ourselves appropriately. (thus being easy targets?) The rest of the group did not get involved in the attack. They were silent throughout the attack and did not follow us as we ran to avoid them. They rejoined their group and ran south on Klemm
We ran to the house at Flora and Klemm and called the police, who responded quickly and acted professionally. It seemed similar to reports of "knockout" type of initiation that has been reported in the Tower Grove East neighborhood. We are bruised and shaken but thankful that the assault was quick and that we were not seriously injured.
Hopefully this type of incident will not occur again but please be alert as you are out and about - also, please inform your neighbors and friends so that they may be more vigilant. Thanks -
Cara Jensen
