Subject: Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant

Seeding Committee Members
The Missouri Dept. of Mental Health, has awarded Operation Weed & Seed
St. Louis with the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant
As you may remember from our last two meetings, we discussed submitting
an application for this grant that would provide prevention services to
ALL NINE of our Weed & Seed Neighborhoods. This award will provide
$42,000 for the six-month planning period (Beginning October 1, 2006).
After that, we could receive up to $80,000 for the remainder of our
first year, then up to $125,000 (dependant on Center for Substance Abuse
Prevention funding) up to two additional years.
This grant will allow us to hire a staff person to administer this
project, over potentially the next two years. I will begin the search
immediately, as we have till the end of the month to have someone hired.
Ads will be placed in newspapers this weekend. Please see the attached
document for a brief job description. If you know of someone who meets
the requirements, please urge them to send a resume to me ASAP.
This is very good news for the "seeding" side of our program. Only 15
grants were awarded state-wide. A special thanks should be given to
Jason Bowers from NCADA for all his help with this grant application,
and to Vivian Dudley for having the insight to propose we "go for it"!
