[TGE-mail] Day of the Dead Celebration

All are invited to a unique cultural experience -- a celebration of the Day of the Dead, Nov. 2-18.  Gallery Visio at UMSL and Cherokee Street are coordinating the events.

Attached is a list of all events.  

All events on Cherokee St. are free.

The celebration begins on Cherokee St. on Thursday, Nov. 2, with a children's sugar cube skull-making workshop and a mini-carnival which includes a tasting of the Day of the Dead food.  Other workshops include a Day of the Dead bread-making workshop, an Hojalata workshop, and the building and dedication of a community altar.  Various businesses will also have an altar in their store.

Belas Artes will host a reception on Sunday, Nov. 5, to welcome three artists from Chicago for the exhibit "Accumulated Material:  Contemporary Altares and Ofrendas," which opens on Nov. 7 at Gallery Visio at UMSL.  A series of lectures will also be presented at UMSL.  Novak's Bar and Grill on Manchester and Tower Grove will have an AIDS community ofrenda.
