[TGE-mail] word of caution

I don't want to spread or perpetuate fear, but I haven't seen this on the
news and I want to make sure all are aware.  These kind of events need to
bring the neighborhood closer.

 

Last night, at 6:50pm, our next-door neighbor was shot on his front porch.
I don't know all of the details but these are the events as I understand
them.  He had just arrived home with his girlfriend.  They walked up to the
porch and 2 (maybe just 1, there was a lot of confusion obviously) "young"
African American males attempted to rob him.  He told them to go away and
they shot at him 3 times.  We don't know if they showed the gun before or
after he told them to go away.  We're pretty sure they just shot and ran,
taking nothing.  2 bullets hit him and he is now in critical condition and
will have to undergo major surgery to retrieve one of the bullets.  Another
neighbor saw one young "stocky" male run up the street and get into a
running SUV and drive off.  I heard the shots (sounded more like
firecrackers even though I was right next door) and ran out but didn't see
the shooter or the SUV.

 

I am sending this email to remind everyone to be on the lookout for any
strange behavior, no matter how minor.  The person committing some minor
aggravation may be the one holding a gun on other day in the future.  You
just never know these days.  We all need to look out for each other.  Please
also keep our neighbor in your thoughts and prayers.  We hope that he will
pull through and come home soon.  He is lucky and this is all still surreal
due to the fact that we live on a very typical TGE block that is relatively
quiet and has few issues.
