Norah, thanks for your thorough response! And for your ongoing work and
commitment to crime issues and the general health of TGE neighborhood.

Dale et al, if you haven't already come, make sure to attend the monthly
neighbohood meetings, and bring your neighbors. It's a great place to meet
other residents who are working on neighborhood issues and to meet the
alderpeople, sometimes police and other organizations at work in TGE. I've
found the meetings helpful for maintaining a sense of greater neighborhood/
community, and also for plugging into resources that are available (and/or
need to be created) for the neighborhood's and my family's well-being.

It's less than 2 hours a month, last Thursday, 7:30 pm at St. Elizabeth's
basement. Hope to meet you there soon.

>Dear Neighbors -
>
>This is in response to Dale's post. Everyone should be aware that we are
>actively working on crime issues in TGE. There are a number of steps
>residents can take to address criminal behaviors.
>
>The Weed & Seed crime-fighting meetings that are announced every month on
>this list are an opportunity for residents to bring detailed information
>about nuisance and/or criminal behavior to the attention of the police.
>Next meeting is this coming Thursday, Feb. 8, 6:00 p.m., Five Star Senior
>Center, 2832 Arsenal (east of Gravois in Benton Park West). We are part of
>the "Weed & Seed South Cluster", and are working with several other
>neighborhoods on these issues. (Benton Park West, Fox Park, Gravois Park,
>and there is a group of neighborhoods on the north side doing the same
>thing.) The Weed & Seed program was federally funded and organized through
>the US Attorney's office. We have now "graduated" but are continuing to
>meet and remain organized.
>
>Residents are also welcome to e-mail or call me with information, which I
>will pass along to the police. (I recently took over the Safety Committee
>Chairperson spot on the TGENA board). My phone nos. are: 776-8432 (home),
>727-3386 (office). We are also planning to offer "Neighborhood Watch"
>trainings in the near future, starting with the
>Sidney/Magnolia/Michigan/Minnesota part of the neighborhood.
>
>Where nuisance/crime behaviors emanate from a particular address, we
>encourage residents to make "Nuisance Calls" to the police, using the
>"script" developed by Alderman Ken Ortmann (9th Ward, covers part of TGE).
>The "script" is on page 18 of the 2006 TGE Directory, copies of which are
>available at various businesses in the neighborhood, including Pestalozzi
>Place, Shuggas and New Dawn Foods. (2007 TGE Directory is in process right
>now.) The script is also available on cards provided by the Grand Oak Hill
>Management Assistance Program and another version available from the City's
>Neighborhood Stabilization Office (in City Hall). Using the "script" helps
>to make a record that can assist in addressing criminal and problem
>behaviors.
>
>Your Alderman and your NSO can assist with crime and nuisance behavior
>problems. Aldermen for TGE and NSOs (with phone numbers) are listed in the
>TGE Directory. Any TGENA officer or board member would be willing to
>assist as well, and most of us are available to talk at our general
>membership meetings. See our website for info (meeting dates also listed
>there).
>
>There will be an article on safety/crime fighting issues in the upcoming
>TGE Newsletter, which is being prepared right now. This issue will be
>mailed to all households in the neighborhood.
>
