[TGE-mail] Not Thrilled With Police Response

yes, you probably were being "patted on the head", but the call was logged into the system. It won't generate much attention as an individual event, but if all incidents such as this are reported, then patterns become evident and THAT will generate attention. The problem may be one person or family or it may be, as I alluded to in a previous message, a "scam school" where the same or similar story is spread around and will pop up multiple times. As long as we keep vigilant and communicating, we can stay on top of developing problems. This has been shown last summer/fall as it became obvious at a TGE meeting (with police representation present) that many people in the room had encountered problems which all seemed to be traced back to a specific block which was then more closely watched. The activity seems to have greatly diminished, if not dissappeared.

I'm glad to hear that Lily is back!

That is quite audacious for the cat nappers to make a repeat visit. Next time call 911 and report it as a attempted robbery. They have to log every 911 call and the response time.

Those who are familiar with my recent scam problem (the fraudulent cat "caretakers") will be able to pick right up on this. Those who aren't should feel free to email me privately for an update.

On Saturday, 2/10, the couple showed up at my door, upset because I had stopped payment on their $50 check. I explained my action in no uncertain terms, and they left. I wondered, at that point, whether to report them to the police...but I figured this was small fry in comparison to their usual concerns.

Last evening, 2/13, between 5 and 5:30. the man paid me a visit alone. Of course I didn't open my storm door; we spoke through it. He was furious, called me the obvious obscenity, and accused me of blatant racism. He showed his anger physically by flinging open my front gate and leaving it--until I motioned him please to shut it. The fact that he complied was reassuring in terms of his, well, sanity. Still, I thought the police should know about the incident.

I called them at about 5:30. By 6:40, no one had arrived to take my report. When I called to inquire, they said they had someone "on the route" who would be stopping by soon. At 7:05 a very nice female officer showed up, listened empathically to the account, and advised me to dial 911 if the offender(s) showed up again and to try to keep them around till the police could get here. She did not write down a word I said, nor did she ask for a physical description of the two scammers.

Was I being patted on the head and dismissed? I'd like to know the thoughts of anyone who cares to reply, pro or con. Thanks.
