I received this note from the owner of Bear, the dog in Compton Heights who was lost.

Janine,

The Humane Society brought Bear home late this afternoon. He is in pretty bad shape - 
we thought he had been hit by a car because he is unable to stand or move his back legs. 
But after a trip to the vet and then to the Animal Emergency room, we found out that he 
has arthritis and apparently he ran until his legs gave out. They found him laying by the 
road at Minnesota and Compton. They put him on pain killers and anti-inflammatories 
and now we wait and see when he gets his strength back and hopefully he will be able to 
stand and walk soon. 

We want to thank everyone - all of our neighbors - for helping us look for him and for the 
encouraging words. This has been a long, trying week, but we are just happy to have him 
home.
