Dear Neighbors - Please see the attached message from Officer Don Re, Third District Public Affairs Officer, about a new initiative to assist older residents who may be experiencing a problem with trespassers on their property. If you have a neighbor who could benefit from this, I would encourage you to let them know about the program.

Sorry to those of you who get this more than once. This message is very brief; call me if you have further questions.

The 3rd District Police is beginning a new “No Trespassing” program for residents age 60 and older. It’s a program that worked well on the North Side and should help some of our neighbors who are afraid to leave their houses because of people on their property without an invitation. The point of the program is to allow these residents to contact the police for persons trespassing on their property with minimal to no effort on their part in prosecuting these cases. Interested residents should contact me at the below number or email and indicate your interest. I’ve attached a form to mail or fax as well.

Qualifying residents will receive a yellow “No Trespassing” sign which must be prominently displayed in the window or door so that it can be seen from the sidewalk and street. Residents will have to contact the police when anybody is trespassing on their property and we will contact you, by phone only, in order to fill out information for the report. The City Counselor’s office has agreed to issue all cases involving seniors in the program. There is little chance that you would have to go to court to assist with a prosecution, but it’s always a possibility.

Please pass this along to 3rd District seniors who might benefit from this program.

Thanks,

Police Officer Don Re
