[TGE-mail] UPDATE - Amoco, Grand & Connecticut

All,

In an extended followup conversation w/ a customer service rep. @ Bank of America, I learned that there may be a legitimate explanation for the $100.00 credit card charge for my actual purchase of $29.10.

If you have ever followed your bank statements online very closely, you will have noticed that you have both pending and posted charges. When you pay by credit card at a restaurant, for instance, you'll first see a pending charge for the amount of your bill, then after several days, you'll see a posted charge that includes both your bill and any added tip. The original pending charge amount is gone.

A similar thing happens when you charge gas at the gas pump. The station transmits a preliminary charge to your bank account to determine that your account is valid. Many stations use $1.00 as the amount that they transmit as the pending charge. However, some stations transmit $100.00 as the preliminary amount. Our neighborhood Amoco (BP, I guess to be technically correct) may be one of those.

I will advise the Mail List as this issue plays out.

In the meantime, Bank of America closed my credit card account and is sending me a new card with a new account number as a precautionary measure against any truely fraudulent activity.

Regards,
