Concerning the use of parking lots on Grand and placement of such.

When I use shops and stores on Grand, I avoided parking in the Commerce lot because it was assumed that it was for bank business. Just as it has been stated previously, people didn't park in the lot for fear of being towed.

Even though this lot is owned by Commerce bank, it was never indicated that it could be used for public parking.

The current lot is not too far from Grand. Besides...the GOAL of revitlization is to provide services and amenities for RESIDENTS that are within walking distance.

Having parking directly on the street may give customers immediate access to the store/business they are headed to, but what it doesn't do is have the same customer walk past other businesses.

The PUSH in urban redevelopment is to create "collection spaces" for people. This means grouping businesses together that a custormer might use in a single shopping trip.

Neighborhoods are built when there is commonality of tastes and desires. Diversity is playing a big part in the mix, creating opportunities for many different types of businesses to service the residents.

The important thing is to tell/share with residents what they can and can not do or use. In the case of the parking lot for Commerce Bank, the assumption was that it was off limits. If there were signs indicating that a section or all the lot was available for public parking, then it would be used.

Mr. Vogt,

I must respectfully disagree with you that no one will park behind Commerce. People do not seem to have a problem parking behind the buildings that house Qdoba, Bread Co. and Hollywood Video. That lot is almost always full.

When I first moved to the area from Chicago five years ago, a couple things struck me about that lot. One, I thought it was Commerce customer parking only, and if I parked there, perhaps I might be towed. That might have been the Chicago 'combat parking' training kicking in, but perhaps many people here think the same. Second, the condition of the lot has been improved some since they rebuilt the bank, but not so long ago (and still even towards the back of that lot) you would be placing the well being of your vehicle at the mercy of the potholes and glass that littered the place.

Keeping the buildings on the street and parking in the back would be the best decision now and for the future. Plans for down the road are rarely followed through with, unless they are put into contracts. Delmar in U-City has no problem with parking lots behind buildings, why should Grand be any different? I think some good signage ("FREE PARKING HERE --->"), or like the lots around the Pageant would be a huge help in letting people know where they can park. That is my two cents, but I have to agree with Andrew on this one.

Thanks,
Alex

7:30 - 9:30 p.m.
Join Chris Hoskins, of Missouri Beverage Distributing, and the official

Chris usually brings lots of beer to these tastings. But rather than
bringing large quantities of just one single brand of beer (like for
instance, case upon case of icey-cold "MGD lite"), he will instead offer a
sampling of over 20 different ales and lagers for you to enjoy from around
the world.

This tasting will cover a diversity of beer styles and origins, including
Belgian Trappist Ales, German Wheats, European lagers and the latest
American microbrews.

After all of these years, perhaps maybe we have finally have mastered the
art of drinking and enjoying great beer while remaining horizontal. We'll
drink to that!
