Dear Neighbors - In January, our TGENA President, Patrick Moore (aka "President Pat") kicked off an effort to build ties with Roosevelt High School, which is located in TGE on Hartford Street. Roosevelt Principal Terry Houston has been very responsive and has welcomed us. Here's an update on the initiative, which now has a name - "Roosevelt Community Council."  Note that there is a request that you RSVP for the May 18th barbeque, and that assistance with the barbarque is welcome.  Thanks.  Norah Ryan

PLEASE PASS THIS INFORMATION ALONG TO THOSE WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED!  
 
At yesterday's Roosevelt Community Council meeting, Principal Houston asked for the following to be shared with you.  
 
(1) The community is invited to a "Roosevelt Community Barbeque - Celebrate a Day of Love" on Friday, May 18th, 2007.  You are invited to show your love and support:  Community residents, businesses, students, staff, service providers, elected officials and others. Police Officers from the Third District SLMPD have also been invited. 10:00 a.m. - Visit Roosevelt, 11:00 a.m. - Barbeque begins outside.  To make a donation, offer assistance or RSVP:  please contact Marvaline Collins at Roosevelt, 776-6040, marvaline.collins at slps.org by Wednesday, May 16th.  Wear Red &/or White (Roosevelt Colors).   Assistance needed: Grills, People to Grill, Meat (spare ribs, chicken, hamburgers, brats, buns) or donations for these things. This is a surprise for the students. 

Note: As of Thursday, May 10, some assistance was still needed with donations. Individuals and businesses wishing to assist with the barbeque, please contact Ms. Collins.  
 
(2)  The community is invited to a program, the "Thurgood Marshall Achievers Society Program" on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at the school, to recognize and honor student achievers at Roosevelt.  Reception to follow in the main corridor.  
 
(3)  The Roosevelt Alumni Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 19th at the River Lakes Golf Course in Columbia, Illinois.  Golfing kicks off at 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  The event is in memory of former Roosevelt football coach George Anastasoff and will benefit the school's football program. (4) Roosevelt H. S. is looking for job opportunities for their students for the summer or after school hours year round.  We would like any business that has an opening for a 15 – 19 year old to contact Wilhelmina Rodney, (314) 776-6040, ext. 6519, or email her at Wilhelmina.rodney at slps.org (email is better).
 
(5) The next general meeting of the Roosevelt Community Council is Tuesday, June 12th at 4:30 p.m. in the school library.
 
(6) At the May 8th meeting, we reviewed data collected from student needs assessments, students shared their thoughts about what they thought the community could do to help the students and the group approved a name, purpose and outcomes for the Community Partnership.  A steering committee is in the process of being set up.  Attached are copies of the student needs assessment and the name, purpose, etc for the community group.  When the student needs assessment data are completely compiled, I will forward that as well.
