StL police seek Tower Grove killer

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis police and detectives are
searching for a gunman seen 
running from where a victim was fatally shot and
robbed in the city's Tower 
Grove neighborhood at 5 a.m. today.

The man was found by police in a grassy area between a
sidewalk and the street 
at 3841 Fairview Avenue, near Grand Avenue in this
normally quiet neighborhood. 
It is the second murder in that area in a week.

At just before 11 a.m., police identified the man as
Mark Lapusan, 45, of the 
3400 block of Pestalozzi Street in the Tower Grove
East neighborhood.

Lapusan died from a single gunshot wound to the lower
left side of his stomach. 

Lapusan's wallet and other personal items were stolen
from him after he was 
shot, police said.

At least one witness told police that Lapusan had been
chased and struggled 
with an "unidentified male," police said. The witness
heard a gunshot, then 
Lapusan grabbed his side and collapsed, police said.

The suspect stood over Lapusan and removed his wallet
and personal items and 
then walked east on Fairview Avenue wearing a large,
oversized back pack, 
police said. The wallet was found in the street, four
blocks away at 3820 
Fairview Avenue, police said.


Today's killing happened not far from where a man was
fatally stabbed on the 
porch of a friend's home last weekend.

In that case, David Delashmit, 78, rang the doorbell
of a friends house. When 
the friend opened the door of her apartment just south
of Tower Grove Park, 
Delashmit was dying from a stab wound. The killer had
already fled.
