[TGE-mail] Foundation/Structure repair recommendations

Dave,

A few years ago I had to get foundation surveys from several companies for a 4-family building that I was selling. Fasteel Corp was the only one to actually use measurement devices (i.e. lasers) to assess building settlement. The other companies just eyeballed things and then came up with an outrageous estimate. (Fasteel said 3 piers were sufficient; another said 14!)

As it turned out, I did not have to have this done, but based on my experience, I'd definitely recommend Fasteel. Their number is 314-862-6307.

When I had the estimate, the cost per brace (called a "pier") was $920. So depending on the location and extent of your settling, perhaps only 3-4 may be necessary.
Hope this info helps.
Jason

Hi there. My wife and I have noticed that what was an original hairline fracture in the brick and foundation of our house has now worsened into a significant break and has also broken plaster inside the house. We are hoping for the best, and bracing for the worst. It's possible that our house is settling in the corner where the fracture is.

Anyone have recommendations on companies/individuals who have experience in brick structures and stone foundations? I'm not sure if we need a structural engineer or if there are companies that evaluate these types of things and know how to stop the problem.

Thanks!
Dave Metzger
