All.

You can help support one of the anchor non-profits in South City that services all of our neighborhoods. Each of our neighborhoods have folks who benefit from Five Star.

A place for the seniors to go and interact with others
Keeping the seniors and indigent folks cooled in the summer
As simple as providing a daily meal
Providing space for community meetings (Weed & Seed, 3rd District Public Affairs, etc.)
And so much more for our southside community
If you wonder how Five Star can provide over 600 meals a day, just ask. I know that each of our neighborhoods benefit. With over 100 people coming daily and over 500 meals delivered, Five Star is what keeps the seniors in our neighborhoods going. I know that we have folks that Five Star services in all our our neighborhoods because I personally have ran the delivery routes.

There is actually two ways you can help.

Immediate need: Join your friends and neighbors on Friday Nov 9th, for an all you care to eat Spaghetti Dinner at Five Star Senior Center. The meal is from 3p - 8p. Lots of fund and enjoyment.

Bring your own bottle of wine to really make it and "Italian" feast!

Long-term need: Five Star is the location of a Weed & Seed VITA (volunteer income tax assistance) Center. Weed & Seed provided all of the equipment and continues to provide training for individuals to actually be a tax preparer. There are several sessions of training (which by the way, after you serve this year at Five Star you can take that training and work anywhere as you'll be certified by the IRS) and several sessions of actually doing taxes.

This helps our elderly and infirmed as well as low income residents. The interesting thing is that the income cap is in the high $ 30's to be serviced. I think many of our residents would fall into this category if they file separately.

I'm not sure of the need, but I would think if anyone speaks spanish, this would be an excellent opportunity to help out our hispanic community in the south city area.

Five Star needs to know who to schedule for training within the next week or so.

Contact Mike Howard or Judy Mettlach at 664-1008 if you can help out or for more information about Five Star Senior Center!
