[TGE-mail] Robbery Incidents

All,

Busy night last night in the Third District. Of note or concern to the
people who use Tower Grove Park is a robbery of a young lady who was
just finishing up a jog and returning to her car on Main Dr. Two kids
nearly struck her as they rode by her on their bikes. The young lady
stopped a bit in front of the victim while the young man (I'm being nice
here) approached the victim from behind and grabbed her around the neck
with his left arm. He put a utility knife to her throat with his right
hand and demanded her iPod and cell phone (so the police can't be
called).

The suspects rode their bikes north from the park into the Shaw
Neighborhood (where they live). Luckily, a police car was in the area
and a quick description of the suspects was announced. Several members
of the Third District along with some Crime Suppression Unit Officers
spotted the suspects at Thurman and Shenandoah where they were "taken
into custody." The boy was 12 and the girl 13. The boy was held by the
juvenile detention center after he was found to have the victim's
property and a utility knife in his pockets. The girl was released to
her mother (that's the decision of the DJO, not the police).

The moral of the story is not to take young people lightly, they can be
very dangerous. The victim did the right thing by giving up her
property as ordered. It's not worth getting hurt over. People want
iPods and other electronic gizmos, so if you're going to use one while
you're out, pay attention to your surroundings and hide it on your
person as best you can. I don't use the white earbuds on mine when I'm
out running so that it's not as obvious that my music is coming from an
iPod.

Also, a pair of 40 something men were arrested by officers in an
unmarked police car when the officers noticed one of the men using a
credit car at a gas station on Vandeventer looked just like a suspect
who was being described over the radio from an earlier robbery that
happened at S. Grand and Shaw. The suspect happened to have an X shaped
band aid on his face and the victim was able to recall that about the
suspect. The suspect reached into the car and began rummaging around
while acting nervous. A short scuffle with the officers ensued and both
men were arrested. A loaded 32 caliber revolver was found between the
seats. Coincidently, the victim was robbed of his wallet and an iPod.

Be safe.
