[TGE-mail] Giving up on TGE?

I don't believe people are giving up on TGE in the slightest. I know I am
happy that I moved here, and so are many others on this list. I think the
number of for sale signs you are seeing is a result of two factors:
1. It is the economy, sub-prime loans in particular. Some people who
purchased loans that have (or will soon) reset their rates are making people
put their houses up for sale. They could be doing this because they can no
longer make payments, or to keep from being upside down on their mortgage
and/or foreclosed. This makes people that aren't even caught in this
situation nervous as well.
2. It is spring. Spring time traditionally brings many houses on to the
market to get a quick sale. Item 1 is collaborating with item 2 to make it
seem like there are more properties up for sale. This is true of all
neighborhoods right now, not just TGE.
I do not think actual crime or the idea of crime is a factor. I have only
been here a short time, but things are certainly better now than they were
when I moved in five years ago. Also keep in mind that good weather brings
many more people out of doors, including those that feel setting fire to
mattresses is a good idea.
In no way am I dismissing actual crime in the neighborhood, it does happen
in TGE, and it should be dealt with immediately. The gunshots and property
damage mentioned before on Utah, as the original poster said, can all be
traced back to a single resident. They must be reported to the police and
NSO as often as possible to gain leverage and establish a pattern. Call 911
if music is too loud, if you hear arguing, if it looks like drugs are being
dealt, if there is drinking on the sidewalk, littering, overgrown grass,
obvious code violations etc. Each of these reports do help and will
establish a pattern that the city can use against the perpetrators. You can
force them out instead of giving up and leaving your house behind.
You have made a wise choice by investing in this neighborhood, don't give up
now, help make it a place that you want to stay! If you want to talk with
others in the neighborhood, I would suggest attending a TGENA meeting. The
Tower Grove East Neighborhood Association has general meetings on the fourth
Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Tower Grove Abbey, 2336 Tennessee
Ave. Come and listen and ask questions!
