[TGE-mail] Information on Use of TGE Mail

Dear Neighbors:

Here is some information regarding use of this list. A policy statement for TGE Mail with details is also attached (this was approved by the board of directors of TGENA in 2006). 

We (the administrators) also want to remind residents that we post crime messages because residents requested to be informed about crime.  We do not believe TGE is more dangerous than anywhere else, and in fact, crime is down significantly in TGE and City-wide in 2007 and 2008.
 
Please keep in mind the following when you post a message to this list.  
 
(1) This list was established and is administered for the benefit of the neighborhood and the City, in keeping with the mission of TGENA (see below).  The primary purpose of the list is to announce events and other matters of general interest to the neighborhood.  

(2) Messages are moderated and we reserve the right to reject messages deemed, in our sole discretion, to be inappropriate or outside of the scope of the list. (Examples: we do not post political messages or info on real estate for sale.) We do not have the ability to edit messages. Because administration of the list is done on a purely volunteer basis, we may not always get it right, but we mean well.  

(3)  Keep in mind that we do not screen or exclude participants from the list.  We suggest that you post only the block number of your address and not the entire address, and keep other personal information in your messages to a minimum. 

(4) Messages posted on the list are maintained on-line in a publicly accessible archive, which is another reason to think before you post.  This is part of the structure and intent of the "More.net" system we use for the list.

(5) If you have a security or safety concern to report, please do not use the list as a substitute for calling the police (911 or 231-1212 for non-emergencies) or the appropriate authorities (Alderman, Neighborhood Stabilization Officer, etc.).  

(6) The list is not intended to be a “discussion” list or chat-room, and we may reject messages on that basis.  Individual responses to prior messages (off list) are expected and encouraged.
